weekend

This weekend we had planned to go away up the coast…long story short after the car was packed we found out the management company for where we were staying had double booked the unit. We un-packed and stayed home this weekend. What we should do, a weekend in Sydney with no social engagements and zero plans. Saturday we were up early, playground and a run, then it was off to the city. We visited Signature Prints, I am a HUGE Florence Broadhurst fan, then it was off to Fratelli Fresh, Love #3 and the Glebe Markets. We had an excellent morning and were home for a leisurely afternoon at home by 12:30. I purchased some great remnants at Signature Prints and a piece of wall paper that will be framed and hung in our guest house, my favourite olive bread and a few other foodie goodies. Now all we need to do is decide what we are going to do tomorrow! -kb

In Good Company Wreath

I saw this wreath from Haru on m.writes. It was love at first sight. Wreaths are not very popular in Sydney, but they still hold a soft spot in my heart, some how to me they make a house feel more homey. I’ve been looking for something different, non-traditional for the last year to hang on our very large front door. This was the answer! The wreath is ready to be hung on our front door…as soon as it stops raining…-kb

Scarf and 100 posts

I am on a bit of a recycling kick. The moths attacked an adorable grey Banana sweater of mine, they left a big hole, very unrepairable in the middle of the front. I cut a stack of pieces out of the sweater all 6 inches wide in varying lengths depending on where I was cutting from, I really tried to use all of the sweater with as little waste as possible. I stitched them all together with red thread, folded in half, stitched the side seams together and turned in right side out, stitched the end closed and gave Luca his new scarf. It was messy and quick and I am very happy with the result, the scarf is warm and soft, the exposed red seams add a bit of color to the grey and Luca seemed to tolerate having it wrapped around his neck! Here is a photo of him with the scarf, seriously this kid is never going to be a model…Still trying to figure out the pose for Mommy in your handmade clothes thing…
As it happens my last post was my 100th post...I can't believe it...in honour a little give away...leave a comment on this post before Monday and I'll send the winner a package of goodies, mostly fabric bits and pieces, a few ribbons and other things I've been putting aside for a rainy day.-kb

Happy Mothers Day

How can 500 songs fit on this tiny little metalic purple shuffle? Mark and Luca gave me an I-Pod Shuffle for Mothers Day. I love it. It's been running with me and that little clip feature is fantastic! I am amazed at what it holds! Next up is an afternoon listening to the pod-cast of my all time favorite "This American Life"... -kb

What was once old is new again

It’s getting cold, chilly autumn, winter is on the way cold. Luca needed some new pants so I used an old pair of Mark’s woolly work trousers that no longer fit cut them up and here they are. One pair of navy blue wool pants, side pocket inspiration from Japanese sewing book, green polka dot lining per Mark’s request, cuff salvaged from Mark’s original pair. It was a great recycling project, Luca seems to love them as they are extra slippery when on the slide at the neighbourhood park! This was the best shot I could get, out of about 50 attempts of the little man in the pants, how exactly do you take a picture of a 17 month old boy sitting still??? -kb

scarf

I saw this scarf hanging in the window as I walked by a little shop on my way home Friday afternoon. The scarf is made of dark grey wool felt circles sewn together, it’s warm and funky, when I saw it I knew I had to have it. There was no tag on the scarf, so I am not sure who made it or where it comes from, so happy I spotted it. -kb

birthday moleskin

I made another moleskin notebook cover for one of my mothers group friends. I used the fantastic fabric I bought from Hollabee when I had a chance meeting with her in Melbourne…it was a great quick gift and one I know will be used! I think I may use my other Hollabee fabric to make one of these for myself. -kb

Complete!

Last night I finished the binding on Luca’s new quilt. I am super happy with how it came out, so much so I kinda wanted to keep it for myself. On Luca’s cot he has a small quilt that I bought before he was born, this is the replacement that will tuck in the sides and coordinate with the rest of his room. The quilt is 56 by 66 inches, the back is the softest grey jersey bought for $5 at the Kirribilli Markets, the front is white linen from Japan with a cross of Heather Ross patches, all natural cotton batting, it’s thick and warm! I did the binding by hand this time and now clearly understand why this is so important! I hope Luca likes it and doesn’t mind sharing a snuggle underneath me with every once and awhile…(apologies for the wrinkly photos, what can I say we had to test it out as soon as it was complete!) -kb
